I'm a beginner at a stocked trout pond — how do I actually catch one?

Stocked ponds are the friendliest trout classroom, and three facts unlock them. First, location: for a week or two after stocking, fish concentrate near the release area, then disperse along drop-offs, inlets, and the deeper cooler zones — ask when and roughly where the last stocking went in. Second, timing: early morning and evening beat midday by a wide margin, especially once summer warms the shallows. Third, technique: keep it small and simple — a small in-line spinner retrieved steadily, or where bait is legal, a worm or floating dough bait fished off bottom on a fine hook and light 1.5–2.5 kg (4–6 lb) line. Set the hook on anything unusual, wet your hands before touching fish, and know the pond's rules — many stocked fisheries are put-and-take, where keeping your limit is the intended point.
