Offset hooks: Texas hooks (Texas-style lock)

The Texas hook is the offset hook that locks the bait with nothing but its own bend: the Z-step behind the eye sits inside the bait's head, and the point is buried back in the plastic. No spring, no pin. It is the older of the two lock classes and still most of what is sold; the TwistLock hook is the other class. Some Texas hooks add a small barb or ridge on the back of the shank to stop the bait creeping, which is still a Texas-style lock, not a keeper at the eye.
