Jig hooks and jig heads: Hover heads

Heads and hooks that hold a small minnow suspended, level and nearly still in mid-water: for pressured or cold fish, and for forward-facing sonar. Three forms, two of which are jig heads.

TechniqueHover rig: tiny shakes and long pauses, the bait glides level. Damiki: drop to the fish on sonar and hold still, shaking only the rod tip
Line / rodFC 4–8 lb or PE 0.4–0.6 with a leader; ML–M spinning
WhereSuspended winter bass, clear reservoirs, bait schools; pressured fish that follow a mid-strolled bait but will not eat it

A hover head is a shank-weighted strolling head built to hold still rather than roll: raised-CoG heads roll the bait, shank-weighted heads glide it, hover heads park it. Pick by how much movement the fish want that day.
