How do I catch jumbos instead of buckets of dinks?

Change address, change size, and stop being patient with small fish. Jumbos live on different real estate — deeper on average, 6–12 m (20–40 ft), on hard protein-rich bottom: shell beds, gravel, main-basin flats adjacent to weeds — so leave the shallow weed flat where the dinks swarm. Upsize modestly (bigger minnows, 7–8 cm / 3 in plastics, small blade baits) to filter the crowd, and fish the deep edge or underside of any small-fish cloud, where the hierarchy parks the big ones. Above all, obey the first-fish rule ruthlessly: a runt means a hundred more runts, and the fix is a move — often only 50–100 m (164–328 ft) (55–110 yd) — not a longer wait. Patience with small fish is the main way jumbo hunts fail.
