Are walleye territorial?

Honestly, no — and it is worth being clear because so much bass thinking gets transplanted onto them. A dominant largemouth owns a dock post and a smallmouth guards a nest; a walleye defends neither, because it broadcast-spawns with no nest and no parental care, and outside the spawn it claims no fixed ambush station at all. What a walleye is loyal to is conditions: a depth band, a light level, an edge where forage funnels. When wind, light, or bait move those conditions, the fish move with them without a backward glance. The practical rewrite for a bass-trained angler: stop asking "whose spot is this," and start asking "what conditions is this spot currently offering."
