Are perch territorial at all?
Honestly, no. There is no nest, no guarded stump, no dock shadow with an owner — the two behaviors that make bass "territorial" (nest defense and ambush-site ownership) simply do not exist in this species. What perch have instead is competition inside the school: food is won by whoever moves first, and a hooked fish is chased by schoolmates trying to rob it. So the aggression an angler exploits is entirely social — presentations that look about to escape or about to be stolen get run down — and the "defend the spot" tricks that work on bass have nothing to grab onto here.
