The reel grinds or feels rough — what is worn?

In order of likelihood: a dry or corroded line roller bearing (the tiny bearing on the bail — the most neglected part and also a line-twist cause), grit under the rotor, a dry handle-knob bearing, and only then the main gear or pinion. Oil the line roller and handle knob every few trips; grease the main gear once a season; do not open a Magsealed reel yourself.
