How full should I load the spool?
PE: to 1-2 mm below the lip. Fuller casts farther but throws loops (wind knots) on the cast; emptier costs distance and retrieve. Fill under tension — wet the line or run it through a cloth — so the wraps do not bed into each other. On a standard or deep spool, put nylon backing on first so the PE reaches the right level without wasting braid, and so the braid cannot slip on the arbor.
