Is there a post-spawn lull like bass have?

Barely. The bass lull is the bill for weeks of fasting nest defense; a perch broadcasts its eggs in one night and walks away, so there is no guard-duty exhaustion to recover from. Females resume feeding within days, and through late spring the schools slide from the spawning bays out onto the first green weed flats in 2–6 m (6–20 ft), grazing the invertebrate bloom. If the bays feel empty a week after the spawn, the fish are not sulking — they have simply moved one flat further out. Follow the new weed growth and you find them.
