How long do muskie take to recover after spawning?

Females, which carry the real cost, typically take two to four weeks to transition from scattered, lethargic recovery to reliable feeding; smaller males bounce back faster and make up most of the early-season catch. Recovering fish slide from the spawning bays to the first adjacent food shelves — emerging weedlines, warming flats with perch and suckers — and they favor smaller, slower baits than the fall clichés: undersized bucktails, 15 cm (6 in) minnowbaits, twitched softbaits. Early-season openers in the north (mid-June in much of Ontario) are timed so most fish have already cleared this window. If big fish feel absent in the opening weeks, they are usually just not eating yet, not gone.
