What is the ice-fishing playbook for pike?

Two-pronged: a spread of tip-ups soaking dead baits, plus one jigging rod to hunt actively. Early ice, set the spread across the last green weed flats in 1.5–4 m (5–13 ft); midwinter, shift toward basin edges and perch-holding deep flats; late ice, crowd the spawning-bay mouths where the year's biggest females stage. Suspend oily dead baits 30–60 cm (1–2 ft (0.3–0.6 m)) off bottom or halfway down over weeds, and space the spread to learn something — depths, edge versus flat — rather than clustering. Two honest warnings: midday is prime under ice, and a big pike's first run past your hands at the hole is where fish are lost and fingers are cut, so clear the area and let it run.
