When is the trophy window at my latitude?

Latitude sets the windows. Mid-latitudes — southern Canada, the northern U.S., central Europe — get two: the weeks around ice-out and spawn (where seasons allow) when every big female is shallow, and the premier one, fall cooling from roughly 15 °C (59 °F) down to 7 °C (59 to 45 °F) through late-fall cisco spawning; high summer is when big fish are hardest to reach and riskiest to release. In the far north — Canadian Shield fly-in latitudes — the summer penalty never lands, and June through August is one long shallow-water trophy window. In the pike's warm southern margins, invert it: cold months fish best, and summer is functionally closed.
