What do largemouth actually eat?

Anything that fits — the largemouth is a gape-limited generalist, and stomach samples read like a swamp census: bluegill and other sunfish, shad, shiners, perch, crayfish, frogs, salamanders, snakes, mice, ducklings, large insects, even smaller largemouth. Prey selection is governed less by species than by availability and mouth fit. The angling translation: identify the one or two forage types dominating your water this season and match their profile and depth — that beats agonizing over exact color every time.
