In northern waters, do largemouth eat gobies, suckers or ciscoes?

Only where the two actually meet, and that is the whole story. Round gobies are a Great Lakes and connected-waters item: largemouth living in the bays, harbours and marinas there do eat them, but a weed-dwelling fish crosses paths with far fewer gobies than a smallmouth living on the same rock the gobies do. Young suckers get eaten where creeks enter a lake or in slow rivers — a soft-rayed, easy meal, just seldom abundant in largemouth water. Ciscoes, whitefish and smelt are effectively off the list: they live in cold open water below and outside the warm, weedy band a largemouth uses, so the two almost never share a layer. Match the forage your fish can reach, not the forage the lake is famous for.
