Why is "bass spawn time" such a famous pike window?

Because the calendars offset perfectly: by the time water hits 15–18 °C (59–64 °F) and bass are spawning, pike finished their own spawn weeks ago, the females have recovered, and they are gorging in the same warming bays where everything else in the lake is now concentrated to spawn. Late spring pike are shallow, aggressive, and parked on top of the year's densest prey buffet — spawning-run suckers, staging panfish, all of it. Where seasons are open, this recovered-and-feeding stretch of late spring is arguably the single easiest time of year to catch numbers of pike.
