Do perch feed at night at all?

Effectively no — and it is worth being blunt because so much fishing lore assumes every species has a night bite. Perch are among the most strictly diurnal feeders in northern lakes: cone-built eyes that fail in low light, schools that disband at dusk, fish resting semi-dormant near bottom until sunrise. Stomach studies and angling both agree — the rare after-dark perch is an accident, not a pattern. Every hour spent night-fishing for perch is an hour donated to the walleye that are, at that moment, hunting the perch. Fish days for perch, dusk and dark for their predators.
