Finesse Texas Rig: Gear notes
6'10"-7'2" (2.1-2.2 m) medium fast spinning rod, 2500 reel, 10-15 lb braid to an 8-10 lb fluoro leader (or 8-10 lb fluoro straight through). Light-wire finesse offset 1/0 for a 1.5-2 in bait, 2/0 for 2.5-3 in, 3/0 for 3-3.5 in, 4/0 for 3.5-4.5 in. Almost always free-sliding — the slow separation of weight and bait on the fall is the whole point. The common mistake is adding weight for casting distance; go up in line diameter or rod length instead.

A 1/16-3/16 oz bullet weight, light-wire hook and a 3-4 in bait on spinning gear — the Texas rig scaled down for clear, cold or pressured water.
