Are the biggest jumbos loners?

Myth with a true core. Perch never really go solitary the way a big largemouth does — but jumbo schools are small, sometimes a dozen fish or fewer, mobile, and deeper on average, so an angler who catches one big fish and nothing else concludes "loner" when the truth is "small school, already moved." There is also a hierarchy effect: on shared flats the biggest fish often hold slightly deeper or on the school's outer edge, letting the crowd of small fish test the food first, which makes singles more common in the catch. Treat every jumbo as evidence of a handful more nearby — fish that contact fast, deep, and hard before the little group drifts on.
