How long does the crappie spawning window last?
Longer than most anglers assume, because of the wave structure: on a single lake, active bedding typically spans three to six weeks from the first colonies to the last re-nesters. Latitude compresses or stretches it — a southern-US reservoir may trickle through six weeks of February-to-April waves, while an Ontario lake squeezes the whole program into three or four intense weeks of late May and June, since northern springs warm fast once they start. Track bay-by-bay water temperature and you can ride the 14–20 °C (57–68 °F) band around one lake for a month.
