Wakebait: Where it shines
Calm, low-light windows: dawn glass, evening flats, overcast summer mornings. The wake draws fish up from surprising depth without the splash of a popper or the flash of a buzzbait — which makes it THE topwater for pressured, clear-water fish and for big largemouth shadowing bluegill beds. Cold-water windows in spring and fall too: a wakebait crawled over 55-60 °F (13-16 °C) flats out-fishes faster surface baits.
