Hard baits: Glide baits (single joint)

A two-piece hard bait joined by a single center hinge with a V-notched or beveled joint angle (typically 25°–45°). Because there is only one hinge, water pressure pushes the nose and tail blocks outward as a single hydroplaning foil: on a slow retrieve it carves a wide, lazy S-curve, and when given a sharp reel chop (a quick 1/4 to 1/2 turn of the reel handle followed by instant slack) or a downward rod twitch, the head whips 90°–180° sideways and glides off at an angle. Available across both Magnum/Full-Size (150–250+ mm) and Finesse/Compact (70–135 mm) classes.

  • Reel-Handle Control vs. Rod-Tip Twitching: On full-size glides (150–250 mm), steer the bait primarily with fractional turns of the reel handle while holding the rod tip pointed straight at the bait—this keeps your rod loaded in position to sweep-set the moment a follower inhales it. On micro/compact glides (70–128 mm), use slack-line wrist twitches just like an underwater walking bait.
  • Chin Weight & Rotating Hook Hangers: Most slow-sink (SS) glides are tuned for 12–16 °C water; clip a 0.9–3.5 g (1/32–1/8 oz) chin weight (Zappu Board Weight or Snap Weight) to the nose or front hook eye to fish deeper or faster in wind/current. Always check that your glide has 360° rotating swivel hook hangers (or add double split rings) so heavy jump-shaking fish cannot use the 2–4 oz body as a crowbar to throw the trebles.

Watch the bait through polarized glasses, never your rod tip: when a big shadow materializes behind your glide, never speed up in a straight line—give one sharp half-crank reel chop so the bait whips 180° and stops dead.
