What does a walleye bite actually feel like?

Mostly, almost nothing. A walleye typically closes from behind or below and inhales the bait without running anywhere, so on a jig the take registers as a single soft "tick," a faint extra weight, or the fall simply stopping early — dramatic pulls are the exception, not the rule. The countermeasure is the old "weighing" habit: any time something feels different, lift the rod slowly until you either feel the jig or feel something alive, and set the moment it is the latter. Sensitivity is genuinely equipment-dependent here — low-stretch line and a crisp rod convert bites that mono and glass never report. If you are missing fish you never felt, you are not unlucky; you are late.
