Do rattles and vibration actually help for walleye?

They help exactly where the walleye's eyes are handicapped: dirty water, deep water, heavy chop, and pitch-black nights, where a rattling crankbait or thumping blade gives the lateral line and inner ear something to home on before vision can. In calm, clear water — especially on pressured lakes — the same racket can work against you; guides on gin-clear fisheries often go the other way, to subtle finesse plastics and quiet baits, and catch more for it. So treat noise as a dial, not a virtue: turn it up as visibility drops, turn it down when the water is clear, calm, and the fish have seen everything.
