Which glue is safe for repairing trout lures, soft beads and trout worms — will super glue smell scare trout?
Match glue to material, then give it time. PVC plastisol — trout worms, grubs, most soft eggs — heat-welds with a lighter or soldering tip, the odourless fix, or bonds with a plastisol solvent glue such as Mend-It. TPE / ElaZtech micro plastics reject Mend-It and heat; a tiny drop of super glue (cyanoacrylate) holds them and leaves a hard spot you cannot rig through. Small hard baits take two-part epoxy or UV resin at lips and hook hangers, clear nail polish over chips. Every solvent glue smells until cured, and trout have the best nose of our eight species. Fresh glue on a slowly drifted bead or worm is the worst case, so cure overnight, air it, rinse it, and handle it with washed hands — the L-serine work showed salmonids react to human skin alone. Check whether your water allows soft baits at all.
