If bright sun bothers walleye eyes, are sunny days hopeless?
Not hopeless — just relocated. The light-gathering eye that wins the night is genuinely uncomfortable in bright midday sun, so on clear calm days walleye do the predictable thing: slide deeper down the structure, tuck under weed canopies or boulder shade, tighten to bottom, and idle. The fish are still catchable if you fish where the light is not — deeper on the same contour, in the shade lines, with slow vertical presentations — but expect a grind, not a window. The bigger takeaway is trip planning: on a flat, bluebird day, save your effort for the last two hours of light, and let wind or cloud tell you when the rules are suspended.
