Do walleye ever live deeper than 25 m (82 ft)?
For fishing purposes, no. The walleye's summer world is the 3–10 m (10–33 ft) structure band, stretched below 10 m (33 ft) in clear or cisco lakes, with a pelagic crowd suspending 6–15 m (20–49 ft) down over deeper basins. Note that last point: fish over 30 m (98 ft) of water are not fish at 30 m — they ride the comfortable layer and ignore the floor. Water beyond 25 m (82 ft) is colder than a coolwater fish with an 18–22 °C (64–72 °F) sweet spot wants, holds little of its prey, and in fertile lakes has no oxygen by late summer. There is also an ethical floor well above it: from about 10 m (33 ft) release mortality climbs steeply, so deep fish are fish you intend to keep.
