Shale Ledge / Shale Bank: Specific holding spots

Step edges and bottom-composition seams

Check below step faces, along protruding slab edges, and where the slope meets soft bottom. Fish won’t always bury in the deepest crack and may chase baitfish along the bank side. When sonar shows fish off the slope target, first deliver the bait to that depth layer—don’t insist on grinding bottom.

Example: The slope drops from 3 ft to 12 ft, with a small step at 7 ft. Compare a cast that tracks along the 7 ft contour with one that cuts across the whole slope to see which stays longer in the strike zone; the goal is controlled time-in-zone, not maximum rock contact.
