Laydown: Specific holding spots
Start with the deep end, then the trunk forks
On the first pass, check the outer edge of the crown extending into deep water, followed by the trunk’s shade and major forks, and lastly deal with the shallow root section. When current is present, compare the seam on the tree’s side with the softer water downstream—don’t assume they’re only behind the tree.
Example: roots at 1 ft, crown at 7 ft. If you get bit on the outer end, first replicate at forks at the same depth; if there’s chasing at the inner roots, set up a separate shallow route. If the bite occurs on the fall right after the bait clears a particular branch, record the position and orientation of that specific branch, rather than just saving a generic “laydown” waypoint.
