Shallow Flats/Flat Areas (Flat): Specific holding spots
Find the secondary structure on the flat first
Prioritize where small ditches cut across the flat, hard bottom inside grass holes, isolated rocks, and exits leading to deep water. When fish roam on the flat they may be off bottom, especially when chasing bait; in that case, keep finesse swimbaits at the target level—don’t just drag bottom because the flat is shallow.
For example, in a 7 ft uniform flat with a 9 ft trough, search both sides of the trough first, then check where the trough meets the outer edge. If there are frequent followers above grass holes, reduce disturbance and add small pauses; if bites only come from the bottom of the holes, switch to bottom-contact precision tactics.

Shallow Flats/Flat Areas (Flat)
A large expanse of lake bottom with a gentle or near-level slope, usually shallower water, serving as a transition area near deep water for feeding and spawning.
