Suspending Jerkbait (SP): 2. Nose Split Ring vs. Loop Knot & "Jump-the-Slack" 180° Turn-Around

  • Nose Split Ring Rule: The factory nose split ring acts as a universal hinge. If you keep the split ring (ideally upgraded to a #2/#3 Oval Split Ring), tie a tight knot (Palomar or Improved Clinch) directly to the ring. If you remove the split ring, never tie a tight knot directly to the bare wire eye—always tie a Non-Slip Loop Knot or Rapala Knot so the nose can roll and pivot freely.
  • "Jump the Slack" (180° Head-Turn / Kick-Back): Snap downward from 9 o'clock to 7 o'clock against a slack loop of line, then immediately throw your rod tip 15–25 cm (6–10 in) back toward the lure. Feeding instant slack allows the internal weight-transfer ball to rebound and whips the bait's head 180° backward in place—making it look right back into the eyes of a trailing predator.
