Pre-Spawn: Where the fish are
Compare routes between winter habitat, food and suitable nesting areas: weed edges, breaks, points and isolated cover. Sheltered bays can warm differently from the exposed main lake. Fish may stay near useful shelter or change areas after cooling; do not prescribe a single staging depth.

Pre-Spawn
Look for a sustained warming trend, suitable nesting habitat and fish staging on connected feeding routes. Bass can feed before this phase; a temperature threshold does not switch feeding on. In Canada, an exposed main lake can lag well behind a sheltered bay. A cold reversal can interrupt progress. Check local observations and access rules rather than transferring southern dates north.
