What does the crappie year look like at my latitude?

Same movie, different release dates. Southern US (no ice): spawn February–April, deep summer doldrums by June, strong fall run, active winter fishing all season. Mid-latitudes (US Midwest/Northeast): staging in April, spawn late April–May at 14–20 °C (57–68 °F), thermocline summer, October consolidation, short or partial ice season. Ontario and the Canadian Shield: everything compresses — ice-out staging in late April–May, spawn late May–June, a brief basin summer, feeding hard again by September, first ice as early as December, and some of the continent's best crappie fishing happening through 60–120 cm (2–4 ft (0.6–1.2 m)) of ice. Anchor on water temperature and the sequence transfers anywhere.
