How should I re-think a lake for pike in high summer?

Split the lake by size class. The warm shallow cabbage still holds numbers of small and mid-size pike all summer — fun, fast fishing. The trophies have moved to the coolest oxygenated water they can find: deep weedline edges in 3–6 m (10–20 ft), thermocline-level humps and points, and in cisco lakes, open water over the basin where they shadow the bait schools. On southern and mid-latitude lakes, add the warm-water ethics check: when the surface passes about 24–25 °C (75–77 °F), the responsible move is to leave the big fish alone until it cools.
