How do river smallmouth seasons differ from lake smallmouth?
River reaches differ in flow, depth, tributary influence and thermal history; a river is not automatically warmer earlier or cooler all summer than a lake. Smallmouth may use main-river shelters, side channels or tributaries as conditions permit. Spawning needs suitable sheltered substrate, not a mandatory upstream trip followed by a July exit.
