Do crappie feed at night?
Yes — crappie are among the most reliable nighttime panfish. Their large, high-set eyes work well in low light, and their main forage moves toward them after dark: zooplankton migrates up the water column at night, pulling minnows and crappie with it. Summer especially flips activity toward dawn, dusk, and full dark, when surface water cools and boat traffic dies. The night bite also runs under the ice at higher latitudes — on many Canadian and northern-US lakes the best winter crappie hour is well after sunset.
