Can stocked trout survive the summer in my local pond?

Only if the pond has a cold refuge, and most do not. The requirements are unforgiving: a deep zone or spring inflow that stays below about 21 °C (70 °F) all summer while still holding dissolved oxygen — a rare combination, because shallow ponds warm throughout and deeper stratified ponds often lose oxygen exactly in the cold bottom layer trout would need. This is why many agencies run put-and-take programs, stocking rainbows in spring on the open assumption that fish not caught by July will die; it is a harvest fishery by design, and keeping your limit there is the intended outcome, not a sin. At northern latitudes (roughly 46°N and up) or in spring-fed ponds, genuine carryover is possible.
