The reel that makes 1-5 g lures fishable: a 20-30 m cast with a micro crank or a 1/16 oz jig, from a spool light enough to start under it.

• Three shapes, one job: BFS low-profile, BFS round, and the 1000-2000 shallow-spool spinning reel
• What makes it finesse: a 7-10 g spool of 28-32 mm, a shallow lip for 45-60 m of PE 0.4-0.8, fine brakes — or a 150-180 g spinning body with PE 0.3-0.6
• Its home is the stream, the pond, the canal and the dock: trout, perch, crappie, small bass — rarely a tournament boat
• Fill the spool, tie a 1-1.5 m fluoro leader, and let the rod tip do the cast
