Wire baits: Spinnerbait blades and arms
The blade decides thump against flash, and the speed it wants.
| Blade | Shape | Angle to the wire | Thump / flash | Speed | Water |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colorado | Round | about 45° | Most thump, least flash | Slow | Muddy, night, cold |
| Indiana | Teardrop | about 30° | In between | Medium | Stained |
| Willow | Long, thin | about 20° | Most flash, least thump; slides through grass | Fast | Clear, sun, grass |
| Wire detail | Effect |
|---|---|
| Long upper arm | More stable, more weedless through wood; more missed strikes |
| Short upper arm | Better hook-ups |
| R-bend | Closed line tie: the knot cannot slip up onto the arm |
| Heavier head | Runs deeper at the same speed; slow-rolling |
Bigger blades = more lift: a big blade on a light head runs near the surface even at a slow speed.
