Why does flash work so well on pike?

A rolling spoon or a spinner blade throws off the same intermittent side-flash as a wounded baitfish turning on its axis — the exact visual trigger a pike's ambush brain is wired to fire on. Pike are heavily sight-driven daytime hunters, and a flash cuts through water and registers at distances where the lure's actual shape is still invisible. That is why silver and gold hardware has caught pike for a century: the flash is the message, the blade is just the messenger.
