How do crappie find a jig in muddy water?
With the lateral line — a row of pressure sensors along the flank that reads the tiny water displacement of anything swimming nearby. It gives the fish a short-range "touch at a distance" picture, accurate to within a body length or two even in zero visibility. Practically: in stained water slow the presentation down so the fish has time to home in, choose baits with a soft paddle or quivering tail that push a steady low signal, and hold the jig in the strike zone longer instead of covering water fast.
