How deep do largemouth go at midday in summer?
Choose usable habitat, not a summer depth band. Check weed openings, dock shade, wood, shallow feeding flats and deeper weed edges where food, temperature and oxygen suit fish. Healthy cover can provide shelter and ambush positions; thicker cover is not automatically better. Offshore fish also occur, but neither “most fish offshore” nor “always above the thermocline” is a safe default.
After a front or a loss of prey, compare nearby shelter and connected feeding areas. Some fish reuse a compact range; others move farther. Keep precise productive coordinates without treating them as permanent homes.
