Do rattles help or hurt on muskie baits?
Rattles are a situational tool, not a default. In stained water, wind, or low light they add a locating signal that helps fish find the bait, and rattling glide baits and crankbaits have real track records there. On clear, calm, heavily pressured water the same rattle can become a "seen this before" marker — muskie that have been caught associate specific signatures with danger, and many veteran anglers deliberately fish silent baits behind the crowd. If the lake gets hammered with rattling bucktails, the quiet bait is the novel one.
