Post-Spawn: Where the fish are

Check adjacent shallow feeding flats, weed/rock transitions, docks, current breaks and the first drop. Follow prey actually present in that Canadian waterbody; do not import a southern shad-spawn pattern into a lake without the relevant forage.

Males may still guard fry while females and other adults resume feeding. Recovery and movement vary; not every female drops to a fixed deep band or stops feeding for a fixed number of weeks. Compare nearby feeding flats, weed/rock transitions, current breaks and the first depth change. In a cold Canadian year, “early summer” can still contain several reproductive stages. A cruising visible fish is not necessarily a nesting fish.
