Why does my jerkbait sink (or float up) on the pause when the package says "suspending"?
Because it is tuned neutral at one water temperature — for most makers about 13 °C (55 °F), between 10 and 16 °C (50-60 °F) depending on the brand. The plastic body shrinks and swells with temperature more than water changes density, so colder water makes the same bait sink slowly and warmer water makes it rise. Add SuspenDots (lead tape) on the belly in warm water, remove them or fit lighter trebles in cold water; one 0.2 g dot moves the neutral point by roughly 5 °C (9 °F). Check it in a bucket at lake temperature.
