Does sunscreen ruin the walleye bite when I'm baiting leeches and minnows — and which sunscreen is safest?

Nobody has tested sunscreen on walleye. The documented case is bass, repelled by the old sunscreen active PABA in Keith Jones's Berkley work, and most modern sunscreens no longer contain PABA. With evidence that thin, buy for caution: a fragrance-free mineral lotion or stick (zinc oxide / titanium dioxide), never a perfumed spray. Better, wear the protection — UPF hoodie, buff, sun gloves — so only the face needs lotion, applied at home 20–30 minutes before. Walleye deserve that caution more than most fish: smell and taste are their final checkpoint on slow presentations, and the slow presentations are live-bait rigs. Your fingers thread the leech, pinch the crawler and hook the minnow, so whatever is on them goes straight onto the one thing the fish inspects. Keep one clean bait hand, wash the palms with unscented soap, and re-wipe after every re-application.
